What are
Adjustments?

Adjustments are specifically targeted pressure applied to your body by your chiropractor. The areas commonly adjusted are sections of your spine to correct symptoms arising from maladjustments. You might feel a quick thrust. At other times you might experience a constant pressure, building gently over a few moments. Several areas may be adjusted, or your chiropractor may determine that an isolated section of your spine needs to have special focus.

Some chiropractors have special tables to manipulate you to get your spine in exactly the right position for your adjustment. The key to all adjustments is to use the precise amount of pressure on the exact sport at the correct time to get the vertebrae realigned and moving properly again. Your chiropractor has received specialized training to pinpoint the best type of adjustment to be applied to the exact area of your spine for optimal results.

After receiving an adjustment, many patients report experiencing a calming effect. Others might feel an increase in mobility. If your results differ following your adjustment, your chiropractor will have insight into how you feel. The positive benefits may arise as you continue your chiropractic care.

What is that Sound?

During adjustment, you might hear an unusual sound at the site of the applied pressure. Lubricating fluids that separate the bones may produce a sound when the gas and fluids shift. Often, it sound like opening a can of soda. This is a normal part of the adjustment process and hearing or not hearing the sound isn't a good guide to judge the quality of your treatment.

Who should get Adjustments?

See your local chiropractic to determine whether you're a candidate for chiropractic treatment. Your chiropractic will do a thorough spinal examination and may include other tests to check for range of motion issues. The tests will provide a picture of your spinal health and help your chiropractor assess your course of treatment. Individuals of all ages benefit from chiropractic care. Newborns, infants, children and adults of all ages benefit from an on-going, natural regimen to ensure optimal health. Your chiropractor will tailor your treatment to your size, age and unique health situation.

Benefits of Continued Care

A misnomer about chiropractic care is that once the pain, discomfort or range of motion issues are corrected, adjustments and chiropractic appointments should end. This is far from the truth! The human body is very adaptable. If something moves out of alignment, your muscles and tenons begin adapting to the change. If you discontinue chiropractic care and go back to your old habits and lifestyle, you may find yourself with a recurrence of the problems that brought you to chiropractic care and the recurring problems may create bigger health challenges. Continued adjustments become more effective in maintaining health alignment over time. For optimal well being and health, consider chiropractic care a regular part of your health lifestyle.
