U.S. Disease-Care Spending on the Increase
| A March,
2001, report from the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) says that u.s.
spending on disease-care is on the increase, fueled mainly by an increase in
spending on prescription drugs. While the total for disease-care spending increased by 5.6% in 1999, the amount of money spent on prescription drugs increased by an astounding 16.9% to $100 billion. HCFA now expects that the amount of money spent on prescription drugs will increase by an average of 12.6% a year. By 2010, HCFA estimates, this will account for 16% of personal disease-care spending. By way of commentary, we feel that people would be better served by spendi ng their money on true healthcare - chiropractic - rather than drugs that do not restore health but simply mask the symptoms. |
