The Immunizations That Didn't Protect

In December 1987, several staff members at a large New York nursing home became ill with the flu. Only 10% of the staff had been immunized. Most of the nursing home's elderly residents had been immunized, in contrast, and presumably protected against the flu.
Yet 30% of the immunized residents became sick versus only 25% of those who hadn't been immunized. In other words, being immunized increased a resident's odds of becoming sick by about 20%. And all nine cases of flu-related complications-six pneumonias and three deaths-occurred in the immunized group. - F. B. Coles, G, J. Balzano, and D. L.
