The Cancer-Heart Disease Connection

Medically speaking, cancer and heart disease are separate illnesses. As a consequence, suffering one shouldn't affect a person's chances of suffering the other-in theory, at least.
But the theory doesn't hold, this study says. When researchers studied the health histories of 200 cancer patients in the two years before they were diagnosed, they discovered that their rates of heart disease were "several times" higher than normal, and their heart disease tended to get worse as their cancer progressed.
Cancer treatments tend to encourage heart disease, the article points out, but that can't explain why these cancer patients had higher heart-disease rates. Their heart disease appeared evel) before they'd been diagnosed with cancer, let alone treated for it. - J. E. Naschitz et aI., "Ischemic heart disease precipitated by occult cancer," Cancer 69 (1992): 2712-20.
Editor's note. The authors propose that cancer "precipitates" heart disease. From the natural-healing perspective, however, cancer and heart disease don't happen together because one "precipitates" the other but because they both reflect Imbalances of the sort that unwise living creates.
