SOME INFORMATION ON THE "YEAST CONNECTION" SYNDROME

There is currently a syndrome known as the "Yeast Connection" which has received some significant publicity recently. The condition is described extensively in the book by Dr. William Crook called "Yeast Connection". Very simply stated, the condition is due to a yeast called CANDIDA ALBICANS. It is a yeast that is frequently found in the human system but in some individuals achieves tremendous growth potential and is supposed to be responsible for a number of symptoms, including fatigue, lethargy, depression, inability to concentrate, headache, multiple skin problems, gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, bloating, diarrhea, muscular symptoms, respiratory symptoms, and even hyperactivity. The condition is thought to be more common in individuals who have in the past had frequent courses of antibiotic therapy or steroids or birth control pills,
or who have diets extremely high in sugar or yeast-containing foods.
The treatment for this condition essentially involves two approaches:

1. THE AVOIDANCE OF YEAST-CONTAINING FOODS IN THE DIET:
This would mean therefore that the patient should avoid sugar and sugar-containing foods, breads and pastries and baked goods, all of which contain yeast, all alcoholic beverages, particularly beer and wine, aged cheese, malt products, sauces, condiments and vinegar-containing foods, such as mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce, pickles, all processed and smoked meats, all dried and candied fruits, such as raisins, apricots, dates, prunes, figs, and foods that are
left over even in the refrigerator since they tend to grow mold.

ACCEPTABLE FOODS IN THE DIET:
All fresh vegetables, particularly after careful cleaning before cooking, all fresh fruits, most all fresh meats, and all fresh fish, including tuna. While on the diet it is best to consume springfed water. Rice in a pure form is also allowed. A wonderful preparation on the market now is rice cakes made by Chico-San.

2. TREATMENT WITH NYSTATIN 500,000 unit tablets 3 times a day for at least a trial of one month.

Naturally, when on the diet which is low in yeast, one should try to decrease one's inhalant exposul'es to yeast and mold in general which would mean avoidance of damp basements, granaries, barns, decaying vegetation of all types, mulch piles, any musty smelling area, any furniture that has been stored in a basement
or attic, particularly mattresses, etc. .
One can gain more information on the "yeast connection" and the yeast free diet by consulting the book written by Dr. William Crook called "The Yeast Connection" published by "Professional Books, PO Box 3494, Jackson, TN 38301." The book is found in most bookstores and libraries.
