THE POWER IN YOUR LIFE

If your emotions become the dominant factor in your life, the power in your life becomes "how I happen to feel," not "what I truly want."
In contrast, if the power in your life lies in what you choose, you are reunited with your real human power, and the way you happen to feel becomes subordinate to what is actually more important to you.
The truth about feelings is that sometimes you feel good and sometimes you don't. Your emotional state is in constant flux. In real mastery of your life, your commitment is to doing always what is important to do, independent of any emotional experience.
In real mastery, there is no suppression of emotion. There is direct recognition of the emotional state. However, there is no need and no temptation to pander to one's transitory emotional states, because such pandering is a form of self-indulgence which inhibits direct creation.
Among professional musicians, it is often said that the difference between an amateur and a professional is this: amateurs play well when they feel good and when they are in the mood; professionals play well no matter how they feel or no matter what their mood.
The point is not that professionals suppress their emotions, but rather that they are not ruled by them. When professionals are creating music, their emotions are important but they remain subordinate to the senior force of the creation of music.
When the importance of feelings is exaggerated, an additional ictim is intuition, an important dimension in mastery of one's own creativity. Those who glorify emotions inhibit the natural organic intuitive perception which is easily available to every individual. This glorification is often done in the very name of intuitive perception. But feelings and intuition are two distinct and separate realms of human experience.
