A Warning to Dental Patients
| "The degree of mercury exposure from [dental] amalgam has
apparently been underestimated," this article says, and mercury "has insidious
effects, not readily recognized." Mercury is "able to cause autoimmune disease,"
for example, yet physicians who treat autoimmune diseases (like arthritis)
almost never consider dental mercury to be a possible cause. Dental authorities claim "that amalgam becomes biologically inert as soon as it is set." Yet a study of amalgam placed in sheep showed that "mercury appeared within 29 days in various organs and tissues and in fetuses." These findings "are consistent with analysi1 of mercury in autopsied human brains and kidneys." The article points to "a serious deficiency in the' efforts of the dental profession" to acknowledge the' dangers of amalgam, and warns that patients exposec to normal-amounts of amalgam face "considerable toxicological and immunological consequences."
